Oklahoma's Michael Fasusi Limped Off the Field—What Happened Next Will Surprise You

Oklahoma’s offensive resurgence in 2025 isn’t just happening because of quarterback John Mateer’s dynamism—it’s also the unyielding grit of the players paving the way for him. Coach Brent Venables didn’t hold back his praise after that gritty 24-13 victory over Michigan, handing the game ball to offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, whose group proved absolutely crucial in sealing the deal. When it mattered most in the fourth quarter, the offensive line’s fierce protection fueled sustained drives that bled the clock and kept the Wolverines’ defense on its heels. Freshman Michael Fasusi has emerged as a powerhouse on the line, stepping right in like a seasoned pro and hinting at a bright future. Oklahoma’s impressive 408 yards against a tough Michigan defense underscore just how far this unit has come—cutting sacks nearly in half from last season to now. It’s hard not to feel a surge of optimism watching these men battle out there, their hard work, heart, and soul unmistakably paying off in real time. LEARN MORE

As much as Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer has made a difference in turning around Oklahoma’s offense in 2025, the players in front of him have been just as important.

Sooners coach Brent Venables said he gave the game ball from Oklahoma’s 24-13 win over Michigan to offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh. In the fourth quarter, when OU most needed to hold a lead, the offensive line held the Michigan defenders at bay from Mateer and his teammates in the backfield, leading to drives of 3:52 and 8:57 to close the game.

“Really proud of all those guys, man. Everything that’s gone into it. Bill Bedenbaugh, he’s worked so hard,” Venables said. “He’s lived and died with every tackle for loss, sack, all the things that go into developing a group of guys; he’s put his heart and soul into it.”

Freshman Michael Fasusi has been a big reason for the strong play. The five-star prospect stepped immediately into the starting lineup, and not only has he not looked out of place, but he’s looked like a potential future all-conference player. He was seen limping off the field toward the end of the game, but told reporters the limp was nothing to worry about and he would be fine for practice heading into Week 3.

Oklahoma put up 408 yards against a team that gave up just 308 per game last year and 267 in its season opener. The offensive line has given up three sacks in two games for an average of 1.5 per game a year after allowing 3.75 a game.

“Bill Bedenbaugh and the offensive line group, really proud of those guys,” Venables said.
