A college football player has been arrested for speeding…way, way over the legal limit.
The University of Georgia’s football program has had its fair share of driving-related incidents over the years. Several Georgia football players have been arrested for speeding and other driving violations. It’s becoming a pretty big problem for Kirby Smart’s program, which has won two national championships since he took over.
Recently, another Georgia Bulldogs player was arrested for speeding. This time, it was at an incredibly dangerous speed.
Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Nitro Tuggle was arrested on March 19. He was charged with misdemeanor speeding and reckless driving.
Now, we now how fast he was going.
According to reports, the Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver was arrested for driving 107 MPH before the police pulled him over.
The Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver was reportedly driving with his girlfriend in the car. He was reportedly driving a 2021 Dodge Charger 42 miles per hour over the speed limit before he was ultimately pulled over.
Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ first reported the news.
The police detailed his arrest.
“I instructed Tuggle to exit the vehicle, at which point he nearly exited without placing the vehicle in park,” the report said, via ESPN. “Due to his reckless disregard for the safety of others – including himself, his passenger, other motorists, and myself – by operating the vehicle at a speed 42 mph over the limit and exceeding triple-digit speeds, I placed him under arrest.”
The Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver is a rising sophomore and he was booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail. He was booked into jail at 1:56 a.m. E.T. on March 20.
Kirby Smart is disappointed, though these incidents keep happening. Georgia offensive lineman Marques Easley was previously arrested for a crash incident.
“Yeah, disappointed, obviously, in those two young men and the decision-making process for each one,” Smart said in a Tuesday press conference. “Both of them are younger players and have made crucial mistakes. As far as the process we followed, it’s not been several months. It’s been several years in terms of defensive driving courses, having players ride and learning how to drive, just like my two kids did, with a driver’s service. Josh Brooks has done a tremendous job meeting with every player.
“We’ve had several speakers come in and we continue to educate, and we’re not gonna stop at that. It’s very unfortunate that one of those young men got his driver’s license within one month of that happening, at 18 or 19 years old. It’s amazing how many kids come to school without a driver’s license. It’s no excuse, but one of those things we will continue to educate and discipline our guys to try to correct it.”
