Trey Smith’s transformation from sixth-round draft pick to Super Bowl starter represents one of the Kansas City Chiefs’ most impressive success stories in recent memory.

Week after week, he has established himself as a cornerstone on one of the NFL’s most dominant offensive lines.

Now his meteoric rise is reaching new heights, with reports indicating he’s set to secure one of the most lucrative contracts ever awarded to a guard.

The Chiefs are moving quickly to finalize what could be a historic deal with their standout lineman.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently provided details on the significant contract extension taking shape.

“The Chiefs and franchise tagged G Trey Smith are putting the final touches on a massive new extension to make him the highest-paid guard in the NFL. He gets 4-year deal done by Tory Dandy and Jimmy Sexton of CAA, to take away the tag and lock him in,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed.

Kansas City is reportedly finalizing a four-year, $94 million extension with their right guard.

The deal includes $70 million guaranteed, officially establishing Smith as the highest-paid guard in NFL history. That figure surpasses elite talents like Quenton Nelson and Chris Lindstrom.

At 26, Smith was the final player in the NFL still operating under the franchise tag, which would have paid him $23.4 million for 2025.

Instead, the Chiefs moved decisively to secure their 2024 Pro Bowler for the long term.

Since his sixth-round selection in 2021, Smith has started 80 of 81 games and proven himself as a foundational piece of the offensive line.

The extension represents a strategic investment for Kansas City, which has prioritized rebuilding and strengthening its offensive line this offseason.

Smith will anchor a revamped unit alongside All-Pro center Creed Humphrey and new additions like left tackle Josh Simmons and left guard Kingsley Suamataia.
