2026 Rose Bowl Game Shocker: Tradition Upended or a New Era Dawns?
Per The Athletic’s Chris Vannini, the Rose Bowl has changed its kickoff to 4 PM ET instead of the standad 5 PM, which was reportedly double-confirmed by sources involved with the College Football Playoff and “The Grandaddy of Them All” — which definitely didn’t sit right with a lot of the CFB world.
The Rose Bowl is indeed kicking off at 4 p.m. ET this season instead of the normal 5 p.m., I double confirmed with the CFP/Rose Bowl folks.
That means the sunset will come later in the game. pic.twitter.com/jKjwKsOHbY

“Last year’s sunset, per Weather.com, was at 4:55 Pacific time. The game ended at 5:31. Do the math and move kickoff up an hour….THERE MIGHT NOT BE A SUNSET DURING THE GAME AT ALL,” Matt Baker replied. “I mean, does the Jan. 1 sun even set at all if it’s not in the fourth quarter?!?!”
