5-Star 2027 DL Jalen Brewster’s Shocking College Decision Leaves Fans Speechless
Here’s the scoop: Jalen Brewster, one of the cream of the crop in the 2027 recruiting class and a shining gem on Oregon Ducks’ radar, made his college choice public this past Saturday afternoon. Now, I know Ducks fans were probably crossing their fingers hoping he’d put pen to paper with Oregon—but no such luck… at least for now. Brewster, ranked ninth overall and the top defensive lineman according to the 247Sports Composite, made the anticipated announcement that he’s heading to Texas Tech. Towering at 6-foot-3 and tipping the scales around 300 pounds, he’s a force to reckon with on defense and one of the most sought-after talents nationally, no matter the class. Oregon’s been chasing this guy for a hot minute, and while he didn’t sign their name this time around, the story’s far from over. Since he’s still part of the 2027 class, there’s plenty of time left before any letter of intent gets inked (unless he suddenly shifts gears to 2026, which looks unlikely). Meanwhile, the Ducks’ 2027 haul currently includes just one commitment: 4-star EDGE Cameron Pritchett, a promising pass-rusher out of Alabama. Curious for the full lowdown?
One of the top players in the 2027 recruiting class, and the Oregon Ducks recruiting board, 5-star defensive Jalen Brewster, announced his college commitment on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for Oregon fans, that commitment didn’t end up going the way of the Ducks, just yet.
Brewster, who is the No. 9 overall player and No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2027 class, per the 247Sports Composite, announced his commitment to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, as expected, on Saturday. Standing at 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, Brewster is a dominant force on the defensive line and was one of the most coveted players at his position, regardless of class, in the nation.
Oregon has had Brewster high on its recruiting board for quite some time now, and while it wasn’t able to land him on Saturday, that undoubtedly won’t stop them from trying in the future. It helps that Brewster is in the class of 2027, meaning that he won’t sign his letter of intent until over a year from now, unless he reclassifies to the 2026, which is not expected at this point.
The Ducks currently have one player committed in the 2027 class: 4-star EDGE Cameron Pritchett, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound pass-rusher out of Alabaster, Alabama.
