8 Women Take on U.S. Government in Shocking Title IX Lawsuit—What They’re Revealing Could Change Everything
But a new lawsuit against the United States that invokes Title IX could present a different sort of challenge to a group outside of the President’s administration: The NCAA.
According to Amanda Christovich of Front Office Sports, a group of eight women have filed an appeal of the recently-approved settlement in the House v. NCAA case. The plaintiffs are arguing that the settlement is itself a violation of Title IX.
The group, which consists of Kacie Breeding, Lexi Drumm, Emma Appleman, Emmie Wannemacher, Riley Hass, Savannah Baron, Elizabeth Arnold and Kate Johnson from various universities and sports, are arguing that the calculation to distribute $2.8 billion in damages on the back-portion of the settlement is a violation of Title IX. Attorneys representing the group estimate that female athletes would be deprived of $1.1 billion that they would be owed under Title IX equality statutes.
