It’s no secret that incoming Michigan State basketball transfer Trey Fort has some big shoes to fill. As the expected starting shooting guard, the former Samford guard will need to try to fill in, along with Kur Teng, for three different Spartans who had played that position last year, including one who is now in the NBA.Well, Fort has certainly done a good job of making a first impression for MSU fans. While the Moneyball Pro-Am results need to be taken with a grain of salt, considering the nature of the competition and the level of defense that is sometimes being played, Fort still dropped 58 points on Thursday night, which was still an impressive feat.
There’s no sugarcoating it—Trey Fort’s stepping into one of the most daunting roles at Michigan State this season. Coming from Samford, this transfer’s tasked with filling the void left by not one, not two, but three Spartans who manned the shooting guard spot last year, including a guy who’s now out there grinding it in the NBA. Talk about pressure! Yet, Fort hasn’t just accepted the challenge—he’s taken it and made a bold statement. Wednesday night at the Moneyball Pro-Am, despite the competition’s loose defense and a scoreboard that can be a little misleading, he poured in a staggering 58 points. That kind of scoring outburst grabbed everyone’s attention; it echoes what Jaxon Kohler did in last year’s event, which turned out to be a precursor to big things on the hardwood. So, while we all know pro-am figures can inflate stats, this seemed more like a spotlight on Fort’s undeniable scoring chops. Curious to see the highlights and witness this offensive showcase? LEARN MOREIronically, it was Jaxon Kohler’s 58 point game in last year’s Moneyball Pro-Am that portended his big uptick in production this season. So, while Moneyball stats can be a little inflated offensively, they can still show us some of what these guys can do, and it looks like Trey Fort can score the basketball.
