Cowboys Eye Hidden Gems: Could James Houston, Jesse Luketa, and Kameron Cline Be the Next Big Surprise?

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the team is working out edge rushers James Houston and Jesse Luketa. Defensive lineman Kameron Cline is also working out for the club.

One of the big questions for the Cowboys this week is whether Micah Parsons will be taking part in practices at training camp and he may have some new teammates to welcome along the defensive front if he is on the field. The Cowboys’ training camp is stirring up a bit of intrigue this week, especially with the burning question hanging over Micah Parsons—will he be out there on the practice field? If he does step in, he might find some fresh faces joining the defensive hustle. Word on the street, courtesy of Jeremy Fowler from ESPN, is that Dallas is putting a trio of defensive hopefuls through their paces: edge rushers James Houston and Jesse Luketa, plus defensive lineman Kameron Cline. Houston, who flashed some serious sack prowess back in 2022 with Detroit, has battled injuries and shifted around a bit, while Luketa, the Cardinals’ 2022 seventh-rounder, brings a nice mix of tackles and pressure. Cline’s journey through the Colts and Bills adds even more layers to this developing defensive story. It’s a camp worth watching closely—because these workouts could hint at some meaningful shake-ups on the Cowboys’ front line and possibly alter the trajectory of this season. LEARN MORECline played in five games for the Colts between 2020 and 2022 and he made one appearance for the Bills last season. Houston had eight sacks for seven games for the Lions in 2022, but was limited to two games by a leg injury in 2023 and split last season between Detroit and Cleveland. He had one sack in 11 2024 appearances. Luketa was a 2022 seventh-round pick by the Cardinals. He had 35 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble in 31 games for Arizona.
