Oregon vs. Oregon State: The 129th Clash That Could Redefine an Iconic Rivalry
The Oregon Ducks have blasted off in 2025, racking up an eye-popping 162 points while handing opponents a mere 30 through three games—that’s some serious thunder on the field. As Week 4 rolls around, they sit undefeated at 3-0, cruising full throttle, unlike their adversaries this Saturday—the Oregon State Beavers, who are still chasing their inaugural win after a tough 0-3 start. This isn’t just any game; it’s a clash fueled by rivalry, passion, and over a century of history packed into every play. Just a stone’s throw apart, these two schools separated by barely 50 miles on I-5 turn every meeting into a high-stakes showdown where bragging rights aren’t merely earned—they’re fought for tooth and nail. The Ducks hold a solid grip on the series lead and have been electrifying their home crowd with eight straight victories at Autzen Stadium. But as these longtime foes meet again, forget the records. It’s about pride, it’s about legacy—and come Saturday, everything’s on the line.
The Oregon Ducks are off to a terrific start to the 2025 season, outscoring opponents 162-30 through three games. They enter Week 4 with a 3-0 record and are headed in a much different direction than their opponent this Saturday: the Oregon State Beavers, who’ve lost all three contests to start the season and will be on the hunt for their first victory in Eugene.
The matchup between the Ducks and Beavers represents yet another renewal of one of the most storied rivalries in all of college football. Less than 50 miles separate the two campuses — just a quick jaunt down Interstate-5.
First played 131 years ago in 1894 and played annually since 1945, Oregon leads the series with a record of 69-49-10. They’ve been victorious in the last two meetings and each of the last eight in the home comforts of Autzen Stadium.
Last year, the Ducks travelled to Corvallis and dominated, coming away with a convincing 49-14 win. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel led the way for Oregon, as he passed for 291 yards and two touchdowns while adding 64 yards on the ground highlighted by a 54-yard score. Running back Jordan James tallied a team-high 86 rushing yards and a pair of scores himself.
Running back Anthony Hankerson scored both of Oregon State’s touchdowns, while wide receiver Trent Walker led the Beavers with eight catches for 68 yards. Both players are back for the Beavers and will be at the top of the scouting report.
The last time the Ducks fell in the rivalry game was in 2022, when Oregon State ran the ball 16 consecutive times in the second half en route to outscoring Oregon 28-3 in the final 18 minutes of play.
The meeting in 2025 is much different from then, when the Beavers were ranked 21st in the country and, more prominently, with the Ducks as members of the PAC-12.
With conference realignment landing Oregon in the Big Ten following the 2023 campaign, Oregon State, alongside Washington State, has held strong to the PAC-12 name. Though the two schools have operated as de facto independents the past two seasons, 2026 will mark the first year with the “new” PAC-12, featuring the likes of five current Mountain West programs and Texas State.
Though the rivalry game between the Ducks and Beavers is a non-conference matchup, thus reducing the importance from a technical point of view, major bragging rights are still on the line.
Make no mistake, these programs do not like each other.
Come Saturday, the records will be thrown out the window and the juices will be flowing as Oregon will do everything in its power to notch its 70th win in the series and down its bitter rival at Autzen Stadium.
