Breaking: Unexpected Injuries Shake Auburn Football Amidst Intense Showdown with Oklahoma
The buzz is building as No. 25 Auburn prepares to clash with No. 12 Oklahoma this Saturday, and the latest SEC Student-Athlete Availability report dives right into the heart of who’s fit to hit the gridiron — and who might be sitting this one out. Head coach Hugh Freeze didn’t mince words Monday, sharing his worries over defensive end Amaris Williams’ separated shoulder, an injury that happened early in Auburn’s recent win against South Alabama. But Williams isn’t the only name raising eyebrows; the latest update reveals a slew of Tigers marked as doubtful, probable, or questionable, painting a murky picture for the upcoming showdown. Running back Durell Robinson is already a confirmed scratch due to a leg injury, while others like Jay Crawford and Damari Alston hover on the injury fence. It’s a curious scenario for the Tigers, especially as Alston’s absence has handed the rushing lead to Jeremiah Cobb, who’s already racked up an impressive 314 yards over three games. With the SEC promising fresh reports each night leading to kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, the suspense only thickens — will these Tigers be battle-ready, or will injuries tip the scales? Stick around as we track every twist in these final 48 hours.
The initial SEC Student-Athlete Availability report for No. 25 Auburn‘s Saturday tilt with No. 12 Oklahoma is filled with key names for both teams.
During Monday’s press conference, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze expressed concern about defensive end Amaris Williams, who separated his shoulder in the first quarter of the win over South Alabama last Saturday. However, according to Wednesday’s report from the SEC, several others have statuses that remain in question.
Running back Durell Robinson, who suffered a leg injury following Auburn’s win over Ball State on Sept. 6, has been ruled out of Saturday’s game against Oklahoma. Williams, as well as cornerback Jay Crawford, are listed as doubtful, while running back Damari Alston and wide receiver Malcolm Simmons are listed as probable. Four Tigers: Champ Anthony, Eric Singleton, Rayshawn Pleasant, and Izavion Miller, are tabbed as “questionable” for Saturday’s game.
Alston has missed the last two games after injuring his shoulder in the Tigers’ win over Baylor, which has paved the way for Jeremiah Cobb to rush for 314 yards through three games in the Tigers’ offense. Anthony has nursed a broken thumb for two weeks, but has been a full participant in practice in recent days. Singleton and Miller both played in the South Alabama game while Simmons and Pleasant were held out.
The SEC will issue an updated report every evening leading up to kickoff between the Tigers and Sooners at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. It will be interesting to see how the report alters over the next two days and who could be available to play for the Tigers.
