Matt LaFleur Drops Surprising Revelation on Zach Tom’s Injury Status—What It Means for the Season

So, Zach Tom’s back on the field, at least for a hot minute, but should Packers fans be breaking out the champagne just yet? After missing the first two games with that pesky oblique injury, Tom finally started in Week 3—but then vanished after a single snap, like a mirage in the Nevada desert. It’s a real nail-biter, right? Packers coach Matt LaFleur insists it’s not a setback, but watching your key lineman hobble off so fast has gotta make you wonder: can Tom really get back to full throttle before the season’s biggest tests? With the bye week looming, there’s hope for healing, but in the high-stakes dance of football injuries, patience and timing are everything. Let’s dive into what this means for the Packers’ rocky start—and their chances to turn the tide.

Green Bay Packers fans were hopeful when they saw Zach Tom in the starting lineup in Week 3.

Tom has been struggling with an oblique injury, which kept him out of the first two games of the season, but it seemed like he was well enough to play against the Cleveland Browns.

Unfortunately for Tom and the Packers, he only suited up for one play before heading to the sidelines for the rest of the game.

Thankfully, as Matt LeFleur recently indicated via reporter Rob Demovsky on X, Tom’s oblique injury didn’t necessarily get worse during his time on the field, and that it “wasn’t a setback.”

Thankfully for Tom and the Packers, they only have one more game before the Week 5 bye, which would give him more time to heal and to play to the best of his ability.

Falling to 2-1 wasn’t ideal, of course, but if the Packers can head into the bye going 3-1 if they beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, they can feel confident about themselves heading into the back half of the season.

They’ll get a scheduling break with several opponents after the break, including matchups with the Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers, but they have more challenging games on the horizon.

Having Tom and the rest of the offensive line back for the Philadelphia Eagles’ matchup in November will be crucial if they want any chance of taking down the defending champs, who are currently 3-0.

This team has looked like a top-tier unit when healthy, which is encouraging, so it will be a great sight to behold when everyone is back on the field.
