Nate Hobbs’ Alarming Cowboys Performance Raises Serious Questions About His Future on Defense

Well, if you blinked during Sunday Night Football, you might’ve missed Nate Hobbs turning into the unofficial welcome mat for Dallas’ offense. I mean, five catches on six targets, two touchdowns, and a passer rating north of 145? Ouch. It’s as if Dak Prescott found Nate on the map and made a beeline for him, knowing exactly where that weakness was lurking. With Jaire Alexander out of the picture this year, speculation’s been swirling—was it a gamble worth taking? Because watching Hobbs get carved up like that, you can’t help but wonder if Green Bay’s defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is already dialing up Plan B… or if the Packers might be forced to shop the market for some fresh reinforcements sooner rather than later.

The Green Bay Packers‘ defense fell back to earth on “Sunday Night Football.”

They went from looking like one of the best units in the league in the first three weeks of the season to allowing 40 points to a Dallas Cowboys team missing its best wide receiver and two starting offensive linemen.

Notably, plenty of that had to do with cornerback Nate Hobbs.

As pointed out by analyst Tyler Brooke, Hobbs allowed five receptions on six targets for 57 yards, two touchdowns and a 145.8 passer rating.

Hobbs made Dak Prescott look like an All-Pro, and the Dallas quarterback kept attacking him because he knew he was the weakest link in the secondary.

The Packers chose to move on from veteran defensive back Jaire Alexander this offseason.

All things considered, it was a decision that made sense at the time, given his steep salary, his issues with management, and his injury history.

Then again, it’s hard to believe Alexander wouldn’t have done a better job than Hobbs, who has been a talking point too many times this season, even when things were going Green Bay’s way.

Jeff Hafley has done an impressive job as defensive coordinator, and he should be looking at all of his available options to solve this issue.

Otherwise, the Packers might have to find help from outside the organization.
