Why Jordan Love’s Week 7 Grade Could Change Everything for the Season
Ever notice how some football games feel like watching paint dry—until suddenly, bam!—the tension cranks up, and a single drive writes the story? That’s exactly what went down when the Green Bay Packers faced off against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7. The game was a bit of a mess early on, not the kind of dominant showcase Green Bay fans were hoping for. Yet, when the chips were down and the clock ticking, Jordan Love stepped up in a way that made you wonder: is this young QB the secret sauce keeping the Packers afloat? Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report certainly thought so, handing Love a solid B+ for engineering a nerve-wracking, clutch comeback drive. But here’s the kicker—while Love showed flashes of brilliance, there’s this lingering question about how much freedom he really has to cut loose. Can a gunslinger thrive fully under a cautious coach’s leash? That debate is alive and well as the season rolls on.

The Green Bay Packers managed to escape with a win in Week 7.
The road game against the Arizona Cardinals got off to a rocky start, and the Packers weren’t as dominant as expected.
However, when it mattered most, they could count on their leader.
With that in mind, Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report gave quarterback Jordan Love a respectable B+ grade for his performance.
“Jordan Love came up big when the Green Bay Packers needed him the most. While trailing 23-20 with under six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Love orchestrated a 10-play, 48-yard drive for the game-winning touchdown. Crucially, Love connected with tight end Tucker Kraft twice in key moments. On third-and-7 from Arizona’s 45-yard line, Kraft converted with an 8-yard reception. Four plays later, Love found Kraft along the sideline for 15 yards during a fourth-and-2 scenario. Green Bay overcame travel issues and an early deficient to emerge with another win,” Sobleski wrote.
Love wasn’t required to do much during the game, and that may have hurt Green Bay’s chances.
He completed 19 of 29 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown, adding four carries for 22 yards.
It was an overall sloppy performance by the Packers, and it had to go down to the wire, even with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback for the Cardinals instead of injured Kyler Murray.
The Packers are tied for the fewest losses in the NFL this season, and a lot of that has to do with their star quarterback.
But as efficient as he’s been, and as good as he’s been at taking care of the football, it still feels like head coach Matt LaFleur doesn’t fully trust him not to turn over the ball.
For better or worse, Love is a gunslinger, and if the Packers are committed to him, they have to let him play his game.
They have more than enough weapons to help him in the passing game, and holding him back might only lead to them playing close games that they could otherwise avoid.
