When the NBA season tipped off, most folks pegged Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs as a top candidate for Defensive Player of the Year—fair enough, right? But after just one week of action, the narrative has flipped so quickly, it’s got me wondering: could this guy actually snatch three of the league’s biggest honors all in one go? Draymond Green didn’t beat around the bush on his podcast—he threw down a bold prediction that Wemby’s pace might not just win DPOY, but MVP and Most Improved Player too. I mean, who defends a 7-footer putting up numbers like that without breaking a sweat? With Wembanyama’s jaw-dropping strides from last season to now, it feels like we’re witnessing a star not just rising—but absolutely redefining what dominance looks like in the NBA. And honestly, that’s a thrilling (and slightly terrifying) thought to chew on as the season unfolds…

When the new NBA season began, a lot of people believed that Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs would be a frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year.
After just a single week of playing, Wembanyama is now in contention for a lot more than that.
Speaking on his podcast, Draymond Green talked about Wembanyama and said he could earn the three most-coveted trophies in the league.
“We must talk about Wemby. He stay at this pace, at this level, he’s gonna be like MVP, DPOY, Most Improved Player. He’s going to be in a position to compete for all those awards. When you look at him, you can only sit and wonder, ‘What type of player is it going to take to guard him?’” Green said.

Wembanyama is the clear odds-on favorite for Defensive Player of the Year, but his first four games have also thrown him into the mix for MVP.
Most NBA fans agreed that he’d be vying for that award at some point in his career, but it’s somewhat surprising to see him battle for it so soon.
He is in only his third season, and he’s now one of the most talked-about players in the entire association and only getting better.
When it comes to Most Improved Player, Wembanyama is definitely showing great enhancements to his game.
Last season, he was already putting up an amazing 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game.
This year, Wembanyama is now doing 31.0 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 4.8 blocks every night.
The season is very long, and competition for these prizes will be tough, but Wembanyama is doing amazing things that could bring him awards and postseason glory this year.
