Why John Tortorella Might Just Deserve Flyers Fans' Respect Now

As the 2025-26 NHL season rolls on, the Philadelphia Flyers find themselves in a rather precarious spot—frustrating fans with an anemic offense and struggles that seem all too familiar under the direction of new head coach Rick Tocchet. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s still early days with only a dozen games behind them, and I’m not ready to write off Tocchet’s ability to steer this ship just yet. But, history has a way of repeating itself; his previous teams haven’t exactly dazzled with their shot totals or offensive output. Yet amid this offensive drought, there’s a silver lining on defense, credit to assistant coach Todd Reirden who’s somehow whipped this unit into better shape despite a notable talent gap. Meanwhile, netminders Dan Vladar and Aleksei Kolosov, neither shining stars in the stats department before now, are putting up impressive save percentages that keep the Flyers afloat—at least for the moment. But the cold, hard truth is unavoidable: sitting dead last in the Eastern Conference, the Flyers have only found the back of the net a handful of times and haven’t snatched a single road win yet. With all this swirling, it’s no wonder some supporters are suddenly looking at former coach John Tortorella with a bit more fondness, remembering the unmistakable stamp he left on this roster and its players.
