Mavericks Ownership Under Siege: What’s Triggering the Unstoppable Wave of Criticism?

Isn’t it curious how a team can spark so much hope one season, only to find itself spiraling into a quagmire of discontent the next? The Dallas Mavericks kicked off 2025-26 with fans dreaming of a resurgence, yet here we are—three wins, seven losses, and a swelling chorus of frustration echoing through the arena. The spotlight isn’t just on the hardwood—it’s glaring harshly on general manager Nico Harrison, the architect behind the Luka Doncic trade that still stings like a thorn in the side. Ownership’s patience? Wearing thin, according to Marc Stein’s sources. So, the big question looms: when the chants of “Fire Nico” grow louder night after night, will the powers that be finally pull the trigger and rewrite this beleaguered chapter of Mavericks history? It’s a saga of hope, heartbreak, and high-stakes decisions—and trust me, you’ll want to stick around for how it unfolds.

Fans were hoping that this season could be a turnaround point for the Dallas Mavericks, but that hasn’t been the case so far. The Mavericks are 14th in the West with a 3-7 record.

Beyond the disappointing track record is the fact that the fans are still very unhappy with this team and especially general manager Nico Harrison, who orchestrated the Luka Doncic trade last season. Because of the negativity that doesn’t cease, Marc Stein is reporting that ownership might make changes soon.

“League sources tell The Stein Line that the rising and virtually ceaseless negativity that surrounds the [Mavericks] franchise is indeed wearing on and troubling ownership,” Stein wrote.

There is a chance that the fans chanting “Fire Nico” night after night might get their wish later this year. Stein’s reporting suggests that Harrison could be headed for the exit if the Mavericks aren’t able to turn things around.

The Doncic trade is still painful to the loyal fanbase, especially as they witness their team suffer and Doncic put up MVP-caliber numbers with the Los Angeles Lakers. It would be one thing if the Mavericks were thriving and Cooper Flagg was having an immediate impact, but that’s not what’s happening, and the rest of the season is in doubt.

Owners of the Mavericks might choose to let Harrison go in hopes of ending this painful chapter and starting fresh. It wouldn’t instantly improve the team’s record, but it would at least feel like something of a new start.

Some people thought that 2025-26 would be better than expected for the Mavericks. But it isn’t, and it has the team contemplating some major and franchise-changing choices.
