Dan Orlovsky’s Stunning Take on Packers Offense Will Leave Fans Speechless
Alright, here’s a question that’s been buzzing in my mind ever since I watched the Packers limp through their latest game at Lambeau Field: When does cautious coaching cross the line from prudent to downright paralyzing? The Green Bay Packers have the bones, the grit, and yes—the defense that can scare any offense silly. Yet, here we are, watching Jordan Love, a quarterback built to sling it like a gunslinger in an old Western flick, kept on a tight leash, like a kid afraid to get his hands dirty. Dan Orlovsky didn’t hold back on “The Pat McAfee Show,” calling out Matt LaFleur’s conservative play-calling that’s as exciting as watching paint dry. I mean, is there any upside in tiptoeing around the field when you’ve got talent primed for fireworks? It’s high time the Packers rip the handcuffs off Love and let him carve up defenses with bold throws downfield—after all, playing it safe hasn’t gotten Green Bay very far this season, has it?

The Green Bay Packers have almost everything they need to be great. Of course, all rosters can be better, and they’ve been stung by the injury bug way too often this season, but still.
However, even with a banged-up offense, this team should be much better on that side of the field. That’s why Dan Orlovsky believes it’s time to make some changes.
Talking on “The Pat McAfee Show,” the former NFL quarterback-turned analyst called out Matt LaFleur for being way too conservative. He argued that it was time to cut Jordan Love loose, adding that they have too great a defense not to make the most of that:
“They gotta rip the bandaid off Jordan Love. They gotta rip the handcuffs off. This ain’t a Jordan Love thing. I feel like the Packers, for the last month offensively, are in this ‘Let’s live in this protective world.’ You’re not gonna be great by living in this protection world. Your defense is fantastic. Stop playing it close to the vest. Stop playing it so shy. Stop getting this quarterback to be so cautious with the football. That’s my overall offensive takeaways. They’ve got to take the handcuffs off the quarterback and stop playing this protective style of offense,” Orlovsky said.

It’s hard to argue with anything he said. They committed to Love, a gunslinger, and as such, they need to let him sling the football down the field.
Of course, he’s going to make mistakes, and he may turn the ball over here and there. But those arm punts are essentially the same thing as just handing the ball off twice and then failing to convert on third-and-long.
With Love ripping the pigskin down the field, at least there’s some upside. They have the talent and the playmakers to dominate with a vertical offense, and they’re not going to win a Super Bowl only running inside zone plays.
LaFleur has a bright offensive mind. It’s time he put it to use and put the ball in his quarterback’s hands. That’s what both of them are getting paid for.
