'College GameDay' Week 12 Location Choice Ignites Fierce Debate—What’s Really Behind the Controversy?

Well, here we are, gearing up for Week 12, and ESPN’s “College GameDay” is making a rare venture back into ACC territory—just the second time this season. The spotlight? None other than the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish squaring off against the No. 22 Pittsburgh Panthers. This pick has sent waves through the college football world, especially stirring some disappointment among SEC loyalists, who’ve seen marquee SEC matchups like Georgia vs. Texas and Alabama vs. Oklahoma passed over despite their playoff stakes. GameDay’s choices often puzzle the crowd, but there’s a method behind their madness—mixing top-tier contests with fresh venues and newfangled fan experiences. After two decades, Pittsburgh hosts the iconic set once again, with a stellar panel ready to break down all the gridiron action come Saturday morning. Now, if you want the full rundown on this surprising decision and what’s next on the GameDay itinerary, don’t miss out—LEARN MORE.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” will be back in ACC country for just the second time of the season in Week 12. GameDay picked the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at No. 22 Pittsburgh Panthers to the dismay of many SEC fans.

GameDay passed over a pair of SEC games with serious College Football Playoff implications. The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs host the No. 10 Texas Longhorns and the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide host the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners in a pair of games that are more interesting than Pitt-Notre Dame.

Of course, GameDay does not always automatically go to the highest-ranked matchup of the week. Instead, it often tries to balance attended great games and visiting different campuses and different parts of the country. GameDay had attended home games for both Georgia and Alabama this season, but this is the first time 20 years that GameDay will be at Pittsburgh.

GameDay analysts Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee will all be in Pittsburgh for the show. GameDay’s television coverage will begin at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 15. Show will be televised on ESPN.
