Inside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Unstoppable Rise: The Stats That Are Shocking the Basketball World

Have you ever watched a player dominate the court so thoroughly that you start wondering if the NBA’s secretly rigged the season just to showcase their brilliance? Well, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is doing just that right now. The guy’s not only leading the league in points and racking up double-digit 30-point games, but he’s casually sitting out entire fourth quarters like he’s on some extended coffee break – all while his Oklahoma City Thunder steamroll the competition. It’s wild to think last season’s MVP trophy might not just be a one-time fluke but the opening act of a back-to-back coronation. So, what’s next for this basketball maestro who’s making defenders look like mere props in his highlight reel? Let’s dive into the stats, the storylines, and why Shai might just be the NBA’s most fascinating riddle.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder earned just about every accolade possible last season, but he may do it all again this year. He could once again become MVP, the league’s point leader, and a champion.

Fans are in awe of everything Gilgeous-Alexander has done so far in 2025-26. According to Underdog NBA, Gilgeous-Alexander currently leads the league in total points with 423 and 30-point games, with 11.

To make this even more impressive, Gilgeous-Alexander has sat out of the fourth quarter in seven of his 13 games. His Thunder have been so far ahead in numerous games, so he has been able to kick up his heels and rest often.

Gilgeous-Alexander was a nightmare for the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, posting 30 points, five rebounds, nine assists, and two steals as his team steamrolled LA and secured a 121-92 win. That brings his season average to 32.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.6 assists on 52.0 percent from the field.

As a reminder, he produced a league-high 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.4 assists last season on his way to claiming his first MVP trophy. If he keeps performing like this, he will have a very good chance of being the league’s Most Valuable Player twice in a row.

And his Thunder have been thriving, partly because of how great Gilgeous-Alexander has been. They hold a 12-1 record in the West.

They have taken down some of the most fearsome teams in the league, such as the Houston Rockets. But they still haven’t gone up against competition like the Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, and others.

Gilgeous-Alexander is playing incredible basketball and his team is sensational, but they still have more to prove.
