However, whoever they get on the team will have to do a better job of protecting Jaxson Dart. As pointed out by ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the team has done nothing to keep the prized rookie out of harm’s way:

The Giants have called a high number of designed runs for Jaxson Dart, including five in Sunday’s loss in Chicago. Since making his first start in Week 4, Dart has been hit 84 times combined between rushing and passing attempts — the second-highest total in the NFL during that stretch,” Schefter posted on X.

Dart is a relentless competitor, and he’s the type of player who won’t hesitate to take a big hit to get an extra yard. That’s noble, and that’s what you’d want from any player on your team. However, that’s not what the quarterback should do, at least not that often.

While he’s more than capable of picking up yards with his legs, the Giants shouldn’t call so many designed runs for him. He’s taking a beating more often than not, and he also needs to know when to slide.
