That’s right. CSU made 15 field goals in a row in the first-half of a Nov. 27 game in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

That’s offensive barrage powered the Rams to a 76-70 win over Wichita State.

Here are takeaways from the game.

Colorado State’s sensational first half

Wichita State (4-3) entered the game 15th in the nation in defending the two-point shot, allowing just 42% of makes inside the arc.

So, what did CSU do in the first half? Only go 13-13 from two-pointers.

Here’s the full look at the 15 made shots in a row:

  • Kyle Jorgensen 3-pointer (put CSU up 13-6)

  • Carey Booth 3-pointer (put CSU up 16-9)

  • Carey Booth dunk (put CSU up 18-10)

  • Jase Butler layup (put CSU up 20-12)

  • Jorgensen jumper (put CSU up 22-14)

  • Booth 3-pointer (put CSU up 26-18)

  • Josh Pascarelli jumper (put CSU up 28-18)

  • Jojo McIver layup (put CSU up 30-18)

  • Jorgensen jumper (put CSU up 32-20)

  • Brandon Rechsteiner 3-pointer (put CSU up 35-20)

  • Butler layup (put CSU up 37-22)

  • Butler layup (put CSU up 39-22)

  • Butler layup (put CSU up 41-24)

  • Rechsteiner 3-pointer (put CSU up 44-26)

  • Rechsteiner 3-pointer (put CSU up 47-26)

CSU led by 17 (47-30) at halftime and shot 76% overall from the floor in the first half. CSU is the only college basketball team this season to hit 15 consecutive shots in a game.

“They’ve done that all year long. They’ve shared the wealth, they’ve spaced it, they’ve moved it and we have a dynamic group,” CSU coach Ali Farokhmanesh said. “We have multiple guys that can score and put the ball in the basket.”

The Rams finished the game with 21 assists on 29 field goals.

Sticky second half as Wichita State dominates offensive rebounds

The big shooting performance in the first half proved key in preserving a win as Wichita State was able to physically dominate the Rams on the offensive glass in the second half.

Continually, Wichita State rebounded its own misses and turned CSU’s huge lead into a nervous finish.

The Rams (5-2) led as many as 21 points late in the first half. The lead was 20 multiple times in the second half and still at 14 with 8 minutes to go.

But Wichita State cranked the defensive pressure way up, causing CSU some problems. But most the challenges came when Wichita State missed a shot.

The Shockers are a big, physical team and CSU was again without key big man Rashaan Mbemba (lower body injury). Wichita State missed 36 total shots in this game and grabbed a staggering 20 offensive rebounds off of them.

The Shockers turned those into 28 second-chance points. Mbemba’s physicality inside was sorely missed and Jorgensen fouled out with a couple minutes left in the game.

CSU’s leading rebounder was guard Jevin Muniz with eight.

“They’re huge. It looks like Purdue out there in some ways with the 5’s, but then they have such athletic wings,” Farokhmanesh said. “They put a lot of pressure on you on the glass.”

Farokhmanesh noted CSU’s game plan centered on shutting down transition buckets and 3-pointers, with those signaling key points for Wichita State to win. The Shockers had just two fast-break points and shot 5-25 (20%) from 3-point range.

Twice in the final 5 minutes Wichita State cut the CSU lead down to two possessions but Rechsteiner hit two late 3-pointers to all-but seal the win.

Still, despite the late push, CSU never trailed and led for 39:09 of the game. It gives CSU a nice win over a top-100 team (Wichita State was No. 90 in KenPom).

Brandon Rechsteiner’s big bounce back game

Rechsteiner was always going to be extra fired up for CSU’s first game in the Battle 4 Atlantis as he faced his old team in Virginia Tech.

It was a shooting struggle for Rechsteiner in that one as the Rams lost 66-64. He was 0-5 overall, 0-4 from 3-point range and had three turnovers to two assists.

“You kind of just have to flush it. Obviously, I did want it too bad last night, but you’ve got to bounce back. You have to move forward and the most important thing is just getting a win,” Rechsteiner said after the Wichita State game.

He did flush it. And he flushed a bunch of 3-pointers. Rechsteiner missed his first couple in this one but ended with a career-high seven 3-pointers (7-12) for 21 points.

“I thought his response was huge. He missed shots in the Virginia Tech game, but he had the right mentality,” Farokhmanesh said. “He just missed shots. Tonight, the way he bounced back from that was impressive.”

Final game in Battle 4 Atlantis up next

The Rams now head to the fifth-place game in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

CSU will face South Florida at 2:30 p.m. Mountain/4:30 p.m. Eastern on Nov. 28. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
