Rangers’ Shocking Europa League Struggles: What’s Really Holding Them Back?
Scott Allan on Radio Scotland Breakfast
Looking at Rangers this season, it’s been a rollercoaster — some highs sprinkled with far too many lows. Sure, domestically they’ve managed better results, but honestly, I can’t shake the feeling that this squad just isn’t built to challenge for those top spots in the league phase. It’s like they’ve got the pieces, but the puzzle simply isn’t clicking into place.
That weakness showed glaringly against Ferencvaros — again. Basic mistakes at the back cost them dearly, and it’s a pattern we’ve witnessed much too often this year. You might ask how they let that happen time and again? It’s baffling. And it’s led to some hard-hitting analysis from the likes of Rory Loy, who sees the European journey as effectively finished, leaving only those last couple of matches as mere formalities. A tough pill to swallow, but maybe it’s a chance to regroup and refocus on what really matters domestically going forward.
James McFadden shared on BBC Sportsound that the team’s rotation has caused disruption, though bright spots like Findlay Curtis did shine through in the midst of it all. Still, expectations weren’t quite met after half-time when Rangers needed more firepower. And then there’s Billy Dodds, who pulled no punches on TNT Sports, labeling the defensive display as some of the poorest he’s witnessed this season. Harsh but, probably, accurate.
All told, there’s plenty to chew over for the fans and the club alike. The season’s shape is far from what anyone dreamed of, and while the European exit stings, maybe it’s the spark needed to reignite their domestic charge. LEARN MORE

If you look at Rangers’ season as a whole it’s been inconsistent. The domestic results have been a lot better but I just don’t feel this Rangers squad is at the level to compete in the higher positions of the league phase.

Rangers were undone by basic defending errors against Ferencvaros and we’ve seen that time and time again this year.
Rory Loy on Scottish Football Podcast
I thought they did okay to a point, they’ll be massively disappointed that is their European campaign over at this point.
Two games left, dead rubbers, and it’s now a case of focusing domestically, although that might turn out to be a silver lining.
James McFadden on BBC Sportsound
Rangers make changes and it disrupts the team, although I think Findlay Curtis came on and did very well. I expected more from Rangers in the second half, and we didn’t get it.
Billy Dodds on TNT Sports
The Rangers defence, that was as bad as I’ve seen it this season.
