Gonzaga’s Meteoric Rise: Is a Top Five Spot Within Grasp?

Gonzaga's Meteoric Rise: Is a Top Five Spot Within Grasp?

There’s something electric in the air around Gonzaga this season — they’re firing on all cylinders with a 10-1 record, just clinched a hard-fought win over UCLA in Seattle, and that grit has bumped them up to No. 7 in the Associated Press Poll, racking up a solid 1,109 points. Coach Mark Few’s squad is turning heads not just in the wins column but across the advanced metrics too: sitting pretty at No. 3 in the NET rankings, and making waves at No. 2 on KenPom with both offense and defense ranked inside the top six. Even though Saint Mary’s hit a bit of a snag against Boise State, they’re still gathering votes, keeping the competition lively. The Bulldogs are riding high and seem locked in as a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, yet they face one more real challenge before the conference play — taking on the struggling Oregon Ducks at Portland’s Moda Center. The tip-off on December 21 at 3 p.m. PT promises to reveal just how ready Gonzaga truly is. For those who follow college basketball as closely as I do, this season’s shaping up to be one to remember.
