Texas A&M’s 2025 Football Season Forecast: Will They Defy the SEC Unfiltered Grade?
Texas A&M’s 2025 football campaign has been nothing short of a rollercoaster — soaring high with an electrifying 11-0 start before stumbling down with back-to-back losses to Texas and Miami in the College Football Playoff opener. It’s a season that’s left fans and pundits alike debating: did the Aggies meet their lofty ambitions or fall just short? Coach Mike Elko, steering the ship in his second year, transformed last season’s 8-5 finish into a commanding 11-2 record and secured the program’s inaugural CFP appearance. Standout senior edge rusher Cashius Howell also turned heads, earning unanimous All-American honors and putting himself on the radar for the 2026 NFL Draft’s early rounds. Yet, winding conditions and shaky offensive execution cost them a deeper postseason run, particularly as their run defense wobbled at critical moments. Still, Texas A&M ranked impressively inside the top 20 on both sides of the ball while tying for the nation’s best in sacks. The offseason is now shaping up to be critical, with the Aggies matching their 18 departures by adding an equal number of transfers—including Alabama’s standout wideout Isaiah Horton—plus a promising 2026 recruiting class eager to make an impact. Texas A&M’s 2025 football season is a mixed bag for some, who feel that the Aggies did not fully live up to their midseason expectations after starting 11-0, only to finish 0-2 against Texas and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff. However, the Hurricanes will either finish as National Champions or runner-ups before taking on Indiana in the Title Game.
For head coach Mike Elko, his second season at the helm was no doubt a success based on the numbers, improving from 8-5 to 11-2 and the program’s first appearance in the CFP, while senior edge Cashius Howell, who started his career at Bowling Green, was named a unanimous All-American and could be selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Still, if it weren’t for wind and overall poor offensive play, Texas A&M would have been good enough to make a deep run in the playoffs. But the primary issues on both sides of the ball, especially the run defense, reared their ugly heads before it was too late. However, the Aggies finished ranked in the top 20 on offense and defense, while ranked tied for first in sacks.
With a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime, starting quarterback Marcel Reed threw his second interception of the day on a ball that should have been released earlier, sending Elko and his coaching staff into the offseason with a clear focus on adding veteran talent from the transfer portal to fill the remaining holes after losing 18 players.
So far, the Aggies have added 18 players from the portal, matching their losses, led by Alabama star transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton, who committed to the Aggies on Sunday. Combined with several rising players from the 2024 and 2025 signing classes, the 2026 recruiting class will make its way to campus later this month and features a whole lot of talent.

I personally give it an A-, while SEC Unfiltered released its full grades for all 16 SEC teams, giving the Aggies an A, despite the company’s founder recently calling Texas A&M “fraudulent” after the early CFP exit.
