“And teams started calling as soon as word got out the that this trade was happening. They had already started reaching out to Calgary about Zach Whitecloud. $2.75 million cap hit. He’s got two more years left on his contract. This is a player that’s attractive to a lot of different teams looking for a stay-at-home right-shot defenseman, and he’s going to continue to generate interest. And there’s the possibility that Calgary flips him between now and the trade deadline.”
Quick hits on the Flames, Hurricanes, Wild, Kings, and Maple Leafs
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period: The Calgary Flames are getting interest in forwards Blake Coleman, Nazem Kadri and Ryan Lomberg. The Stars have some interest in Coleman and they’re on his trade list. Teams also reached out to the Flames about Zach Whitecloud after they acquired him from the Golden Knights.
The Carolina Hurricanes have made Jesperi Kotkaniemi available. If they were able to land a big-name, defenseman Alexander Nikishin could be made available.
The Minnesota Wild have shown some interest in Kotkaniemi, but he’s not their first choice.
The Los Angeles Kings are looking for some scoring help and are not currently interested in making an in-season coaching change.
NHL Rumors: Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, and J.T. Miller
The Toronto Maple Leafs priority is a right-handed defenseman over a top-six forward. GM Brad Treliving may try to land both before the trade deadline.
