"Game Changer: College Football Program Unveils Bold Move with Free Concessions for Fans – What’s Behind This Surprising Decision?"

As most sports stadiums drive up concession prices, one college football program is offering fans free food and drinks in 2025.

On Monday, Coastal Carolina announced that fans can eat for free inside Brooks Stadium this season. Hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, and fountain drinks are all available to ticket-holders at no cost.

“Our fans are the heartbeat of Teal Nation, and we’re always looking for ways to elevate their game day experience,” Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and University Recreation Chance Miller said in the school’s press release. “With the CCU Kickoff Meal Deal, we’re excited to offer free concessions this fall as a way to say thank you for the energy, passion, and support they bring to Brooks Stadium every game.”

Skeptical fans thought the offer was too good to be true. Coastal Carolina making the announcement right before April Fools’ Day didn’t assuage their suspicions.

However, the only apparent catch is that customers must scan each concession trip through the Coastal Carolina Athletics App, which has yet to be released.

Fans can make as many concession trips as they like during the game. They’re allowed up to four items each time.

Alcohol and other specialty items aren’t covered under this promotion but will remain available to purchase.

It’s an innovative marketing tactic for a program that went 6-7 last season. The Chanticleers lost the Myrtle Beach Bowl to UTSA last December.

Since Coastal Carolina still must launch the app, it appears the offer wouldn’t apply to Saturday’s spring game. The intra-squad scrimmage, which is free to attend, starts at 5 p.m. ET.

In that case, the CCU Kickoff Meal Deal will debut when Coastal Carolina hosts Charleston Southern in its home opener on Sept. 6. Most fans may be waiting in line for free concessions as the action unfolds.
