"Unveiling Secrets: What This Unexpected Discovery Could Mean for the Future"

Kirk Herbstreit, the analytical voice of college football for ESPN’s College GameDay, has spilled the beans about his infamous game picks. For two decades, he’s captivated fans with insights derived from his past as an Ohio State quarterback and his deep dive into every week’s matchups. But with College GameDay now the reigning titan of pregame shows—smashing viewership records this past season—questions abound. Are his picks truly his own, or is he being sweet-talked into showcasing certain teams, especially with the influx of SEC chatter since ESPN inked a deal with the conference? This week, Herbstreit cleared the air, asserting that he’s the captain of his own ship, steering clear of any corporate puppetry, while emphasizing the importance of fair, honest commentary. Is the pressure to lean toward certain narratives real, or is it merely a figment of fan speculation? Well, it turns out Herbstreit isn’t buying into that notion. Meet The Wife Of Kirk Herbstreit (1:13)

ESPN College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit has made a big admission about his picks on the show.

Herbstreit, a former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback turned college football analyst, makes his picks for college football’s biggest games of the week each and every Saturday during the fall. ESPN’s College GameDay remains the most-watched college football pregame show in the country. During the 2024 season, it set records for viewers and it has a lot of momentum heading into 2025.

But many fans often wonder if there’s a serious bias toward certain teams – or certain conferences – during College GameDay’s show – and ESPN’s college football coverage as a whole.

Is Herbstreit told to talk more about the teams in the SEC, now that ESPN has a TV deal with the conference? Is he told to pick certain teams from those leagues to increase discussion or hype?

Herbstreit revealed the truth this week.

The ESPN College GameDay analyst made it clear that he’s picking everything on his own. In his 20-plus year career at ESPN, he’s never been told what to talk about or who to hype up.

“I’m a pleaser by nature. I try to be a voice of reason. I try to be fair,” Herbstreit said on the Pure Athlete podcast. “In this era of television, there’s a lot of what you see in politics. When you’re watching TV, you see it in sports. There’s a lot of shock jock. There’s a lot of ‘What can I say to try to be trending, to be on social media What outlandish thing can I say to get out there?’ I’ve never done that. I never will.”

He added: “ESPN’s never asked me to have a side. ‘You need to say this for our sake.’ Never had that one time in 29 years. So, I just really do a lot of work. I talk to a lot of people. I prepare. I never, ever try to talk down to the viewers.”

Herbstreit will surely still have his fair share of doubters, though it’s clear that he’s coming up with all of his opinions – and picks – on his own.

ESPN isn’t force-feeding him anything.
