Celebrities Who Unfortunately Passed Away In 2024 (2:18)

The college football world lost a beloved player way too soon this week as former Louisville Cardinals star P.J. Blue passed away. He was 27 years old.

Blue played linebacker for the Cardinals for several years, with his most extensive action coming in the 2018 season. That year he registered 39 combined tackles in 11 games. He also registered two tackles for loss.

Sadly, knee injuries limited him to only a handful of games in his three other seasons with the program. 

“We are saddened by the passing of Cardinal Forever P.J. Blue. Our thoughts are with his loved ones,” Louisville Football said in a statement.

Cardinals fans and general football fans have come out to give their love to Blue and offer condolences.

“Love u Superman ! This one hurt fasho 💔💔💔 I won’t forget them Krazy times we had at the ville man 🤦🏾‍♂️🕊️🕊️,” former Louisville linebacker Malik Staples wrote on X. “3 1 and 1 3 … still don’t believe it. Feels like yesterday when we came in 2016😪”

“Too young prayers out to the family. Rest in peace,” another Louisville fan wrote.

“My deepest condolences to the entire family of P. J. Blue. May you rest in peace,” wrote a third.

“My friend, my brother, a fellow Jemison Panther, A fellow teammate. You will be missed man.”

“Rest Easy PJ. You were one of the good ones man.”

“Heart breaking . Prayers for his family, he was such a nice young man.”

Blue attended high school at Park Crossing in his native Alabama. He was a three-star prospect in the Class of 2016 and chose Louisville amid offers from national powerhouses such as Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma and Tennessee among others. 

247Sports rated Blue as the No. 35 outside linebacker in the Class of 2016 and the No. 16 player from the state of Alabama.
