Saturday’s doubleheader opened with the Aggies beating Georgia 8-0 in seven innings.
The Aggies (34-5, 8-3) previously were No. 4 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll released Monday, but climbed thanks to their series win against Georgia. Texas softball stayed atop the rankings after a sweep of Missouri. ESPN/USA Softball polls also listed the Aggies at No. 3.
The Aggies continue SEC play at home in College Station this week against No. 6 LSU.
Here are the latest poll updates:A&M found themselves in a 4-0 hole in the first inning after a sacrifice single, and two back-to-back home runs. But A&M’s offense churned in the top of the third to even it at four. A two-RBI single from graduate student Mac Barbara made it 6-4, but a three-run home run from Allie Enright followed by a home run from KK Dement made it 10-4. A two-run RBI single from Dement secured the Aggies’ 12-5 win.
