With transfer rumors swirling this time of the year, Texas quarterback Arch Manning has provided an update on his future in Austin.
Manning, a five-star recruit from the 2023 class, appeared in 10 games for the Longhorns last season despite not being the full-time starter for Steve Sarkisian. He completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 939 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions.
Now that Quinn Ewers is off to the NFL, Sarkisian will hand the keys to his offense over to Manning. There’ll be plenty of hype surrounding the Longhorns, make no mistake about it.
Although the 2025 season is still several months away, Manning let Texas fans know that he’s amped up about being the team’s Week 1 starter.
“It was tough. I mean, it’s tough in this age,” Manning said, via The Athletic. “Sometimes it’s worth the wait. But I hope it pays off. There’s nowhere else I want to be. I want to be at Texas. I’ve got friends here. I love this place. So, I want to be the quarterback at the University of Texas.”
Manning will lead the Longhorns this fall as long as he’s healthy. Will he only be their starter for one full season though? That remains the question.
“First of all, there’s no guarantees that Arch Manning’s coming out after next year. It sounds like he certainly could be staying beyond next year,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said earlier this month. “I’m not a college football insider, but none of the Mannings ever went out early, and I don’t know with NIL money being what it is why Arch would do that. So, all of this conversation about tanking for Arch next year, he could be in the draft in 2027, not even next year.”
Manning is currently considered one of the top quarterback prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft.
As you can tell from Manning’s recent comments, he’s simply focused on being the best quarterback he can be for Texas. He’s not worried about the NFL just yet.
