Surprise Pick: Could This Elite Offensive Lineman Still Be Available for the Dolphins?

Consider this: if NFL drafts were like a real-life choose-your-own-adventure, wouldn’t it be tantalizing to have a plot twist where the Miami Dolphins unexpectedly snag a top-tier offensive lineman? Imagine the excitement, the unscripted cheers echoing in their draft room, as they gear up for a game-changing pick. This is exactly what Colin Cowherd is pondering over when he talks about the Dolphins potentially grabbing Will Campbell.

Now, let’s wind back a tad… The Miami Dolphins have just lost a linchpin, Terron Armstead, to retirement, leaving their offensive front vulnerable, especially on the left side. They’ve been eyeing a seat at the offensive line table, but here’s where strategy, or perhaps a touch of fortune, comes into play. Despite the strategic move to possibly promote Patrick Paul, who showed flashes of brilliance, there’s a buzz in the air. Could the Dolphins really scoop up a gem like LSU’s Will Campbell?

Oh, the intrigue! Here we have a scenario where the stars align for Miami. Campbell, a robust and agile tackle from LSU, who’s expected to fly off the board in the top five picks, could slip through the cracks and land right in the Dolphins’ hands at No. 13. It’s like hoping a five-star chef suddenly decides to cook for your local diner. But in the draft, crazier things have happened!

Cowherd’s mock draft isn’t just stirring the pot; it’s potentially redefining the entire menu for the Dolphins. Imagine having an NFL-ready behemoth with Campbell’s athletic profile… it’s enough to make any GM sit up straighter. And for a team like the Dolphins, who’ve dabbled in the allure of flash over substance, this might be their golden ticket back to trench warfare success.

So, as we gear up for this draft’s drama, the question lingers: Will Campbell fall within reach, or will the Dolphins have to settle for a different dish from the draft smorgasbord? One thing’s for sure, if they can pull this off, it’s not just another chapter in the team’s story—it’s a dramatic, possibly franchise-defining plot twist.

The Miami Dolphins faced a significant drain of experience this offseason when longtime left tackle Terron Armstead announced his retirement.

Without Armstead, the Dolphins appear poised to promote Patrick Paul, who showed potential during his three rookie starts last season.

Not everyone agrees with this succession plan, however.

FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd recently presented an intriguing alternative in his mock draft, suggesting that standout tackle Will Campbell might fall to Miami at pick No. 13.

“I think he’s pretty good, not as good as Kelvin Banks. Again, you’re investing in Tua [Tagovailoa]. Tua has that injury concern. Go get an offensive lineman. You also lost a very good tackle in Terron Armstead. Just do this, go get it. I know it’s not sexy. You tried sexy with Jalen Ramsey and Tyreek Hill, how’s that workin’ out for you? Just go to the trenches and get a good left tackle,” Cowherd said on “The Herd,” via FinsXtra.

Such a draft outcome would represent an ideal situation for the Dolphins.

Landing Campbell would address a critical need with a premium talent who is expected to be selected much earlier, perhaps as high as No. 4 overall by the New England Patriots.

Armstead’s retirement created a substantial void at left tackle that Campbell appears equipped to fill immediately.

A three-year starter at LSU, he brings an NFL-ready build at 6-foot-6 and 324 pounds, complemented by remarkable athleticism for his size.

Campbell’s athletic profile suggests he could excel in Miami’s zone-based blocking scheme.

His combination of physical tools and possible All-Pro ceiling makes him an appealing target should he remain available when the Dolphins make their selection.
