College football has changed a lot with the legalization of NIL.

It’s almost like free agency each time the transfer portal opens up, since a lot of players want more NIL money. It can even lead to a situation we saw with former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who was with the program before holding out for more NIL money.

Tennessee wasn’t interested in giving him a raise, so he entered the portal and committed to UCLA.

It’s the wild west in college football right now, and former Florida and South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier thinks it is an “unfair sport.”

“It is a very unfair sport right now,” Spurrier said, via On3

He also thinks that there needs to be a limit on how much teams can spend so that the playing field is a bit more fair between some of the blue bloods and other lesser schools.

Even if that happened, the blue bloods would still lead the way and spend the most since they have the most money. That’s how it will always be since they have some of the biggest donors.

The spring transfer portal window is still open for three more days. It opened on April 16 and will close on Friday, April 25.

More than 2,000 FBS players have entered the portal during this window in search of better opportunities. Those numbers will keep increasing with each portal window opening unless something is done about it.

The same can even be said for college basketball with the transfer portal window, since some of the top schools in the country are reportedly spending at least $10 million on their rosters next season.

It’s a completely new era in college sports.
