Rece Davis, Nick Saban, and Kirk Herbstreit continued the show’s legacy even in his absence, but they couldn’t resist paying homage to him too. “We’ll miss him but can’t wait for his final appearance”, it hits you like having your playbook snatched away mid-season.

With the 2025 NFL Draft almost over, football fans around the country are keeping “College GameDay” legend Lee Corso.
ESPN announced earlier this month that Corso will retire from broadcasting after one last episode of “College GameDay” on Aug. 30. It’ll mark the end of an epic run that included so many exciting headgear picks and him saying, “not so fast, my friend,” countless times.
When Corso’s retirement was first announced by ESPN, the longtime analyst expressed gratitude for all the support he has received over the years.
“ESPN has been exceptionally generous to me, especially these past few years,” Corso said. “They accommodated me and supported me, as did my colleagues in the early days of College GameDay. Special thanks to Kirk Herbstreit for his friendship and encouragement. And lest I forget, the fans … truly a blessing to share this with them. ESPN gave me this wonderful opportunity and provided me the support to ensure success. I am genuinely grateful.”
Unfortunately, Corso wasn’t with the “College GameDay” crew for the NFL Draft this week in Green Bay.
Rece Davis, Nick Saban and Kirk Herbstreit provided their analysis on some of the top picks made on Thursday and Friday, but not before they paid tribute to Corso.
“I’ve talked with him quite a bit over the last week or so. The best thing I can say is he’s at peace with his decision,” Herbstreit said. “He’ll be 90 in August. He’s had an amazing run. We love him and we can’t wait to share the desk with him in Week 1.”

Over the past 48 hours, football fans have made it clear they’ll miss Corso once he’s officially retired.
“Great stuff guys! Corso one of one! Loved by everyone,” one fan commented.
“It’s going to be so sad to see Coach Lee Corso go,” a second fan wrote.
“Never understood people complaining about Corso the last few years,” another fan said. “He embodies passion for what you do. The love and respect he garners is so genuine.”
Corso has been the heart and soul of “College GameDay” for nearly 40 years. It’ll be tough watching the show without him.
That being said, Corso has earned the right to go out on his terms.
We wish Corso all the best as he gets ready for the next chapter of his life.
