Unexpected Plot Twist: Ewers' NFL Pick Sends Fans into Frenzy

In the whirlwind of college football drama—think Texas coach Steve Sarkisian’s unexpected personal life turn—comes another twist with Quinn Ewers’ NFL draft saga. Picture this: after a dazzling yet inconsistent career with the Longhorns, the former No. 1 recruit found himself waiting through 230 picks, a moment that left many fans and analysts scratching their heads. With the clock ticking down, the Miami Dolphins leapt at the chance, selecting Ewers 231st overall.

Here’s a mind-bender for you: did Ewers jump the gun by opting for the NFL when a lucrative stay in college could’ve padded his pockets further? This question hovered over social media like a contentious offside flag on a close call. “Why bypass another million-dollar year in college for what might seem like a modest shot in the pros?” they asked, the echo of skepticism resounding in digital arenas.

Fans and pundits alike have been throwing their virtual hats in the ring, voicing their disbelief, their support, and their sheer astonishment. From suggestions that he’s the next Dan Marino to the critique that the transfer portal would’ve been a smarter play, Ewers’ choice has sparked a firestorm of debate. With his track record of leading Texas to the brink of glory, the question remains: will this seemingly undervalued QB prove his worth with the Dolphins? Or will the grass at the pro level prove a bit less green than anticipated?

Let the speculation simmer as Ewers dons the Dolphins’ colors, intent on proving that perhaps, just perhaps, the NFL GMs were shortsighted. Only time will tell if his choice was a hurried gambit or a calculated step towards NFL stardom. For now, the chatter continues, as does the anticipation for what this talented QB brings to the gridiron.

After 230 selections, Quinn Ewers has finally found an NFL home.

Despite some really good moments at Texas, the former No. 1 recruit had to wait all seven rounds to hear his name called, when Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins selected him 231st overall.

Many felt Ewers should’ve maybe stayed another year in college given the highly-lucrative transfer offers he was receiving and the seeming lack of pro interest at the moment.

Fans reacted to the QB packing his bags for Miami online.

“ARE NFL GMS STUPID?!?!? WHAT THE HECK IS THE DISRESPECT ???” a user asked. “QUINN EWERS WILL PROVE THE ENTIRE LEAGUE WRONG AND MAKE EVERYBGM PAY!!!!!!!! THE APOLOGIES BETTER BE AS LOUD AS THE DISRESPECT.”

“The biggest non-Shedeur storyline of this draft is that Quinn Ewers should have entered the transfer portal instead of the draft,” NBC’s Nicole Auerbach replied.

“I’m convinced that no one really watched Quinn Ewers,” a fan commented. “The guy’s pretty damn good at football.”

“Quinn Ewers is the most undervalued and underappreciated quarterback I’ve ever seen,” another person posted.

“I like Quinn Ewers over Tua already. He’s Dan Marino 2.0 and yes.. I said it,” former Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant said.

“Quinn Ewers was long ready to go pro, but he probably cost himself millions by entering the Draft instead of returning to college and transferring,” Chris Vannini shared. “He would’ve made $4m+ in 2025 by coming back. Per Spotrac, his rookie slot contract will be about $4.3m total over four years.”

Ewers enjoyed a heck of a career with the Longhorns and helped lead them to back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances — one of which had them a game away from the national title.

Between him and Sanders, both will have a lot to prove regarding their unexpected draft position at rookie minicamp.
