Bill Belichick has embraced the spotlight since leaving the New England Patriots, but the North Carolina Tar Heels coach is raising eyebrows due to his relationship. 

The 73-year-old football coach is dating 24-year-old former college cheerleader Jordon Hudson. The couple was recently profiled in a CBS interview, and Hudson took control, explaining that Belichick would not be answering questions she did not approve of.

After the awkward interview on “CBS News Sunday Morning,” some sports journalists are calling out Hudson for her negative affect on Belichick’s brand.

During a piece on the interview, Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports said that Belichick’s “newly acquired media skills seemed to disappear.”

He noted that Belichick seemed to fall back into his old personality from his days with the Patriots – stern, showing little in terms of personality or affability. The change in demeanor has been a shift from the happy, smiling Belichick that fans have seen over the last year.

A viral moment from the interview – Hudson shooting down questions about how the couple met – caused several fans and media members to voice their opinion.

As CBS’ Tony Dokoupil asked Belichick how he and Hudson met, she sternly told the reporter “not talking about this,” repeating herself a second time as Belichick stayed across from the interviewer.

ESPN’s Peter Schrager called the moment “the most awkward thing” from this weekend, while Barstool’s Dave Portnoy was “squirming in [his] seat” while watching it.

Many, including McCarthy, noted that the decision to refuse the question was strange. Belichick and Hudson have spoken multiple times about how they’ve met, crossing paths on a flight from Boston to Florida back in 2021.

They’ve been public about the relationship themselves, appearing in Super Bowl ads and posting photos of their dates and adventures together on social media.

“Being told by a 24-year-old what he will and will not talk about doesn’t exactly shout ‘leadership’ to me,” said Jason Jones of Jones Literary Agency, a longtime publicist.

“It muddles his message and overall hurts his brand.”

We’ll see if Belichick adjust how things are handled in interviews with Hudson, or if he continues to let her lead the way – even when he takes to the podium this season as North Carolina’s coach.
