Trump’s Cryptic 3-Word Message to Nick Saban Sends Alabama Fans into a Frenzy

Alabama’s Class of 2025 had quite the memorable send-off last night—not just because of their diplomas, but thanks to a graduation ceremony featuring two heavyweight guests: legendary coach Nick Saban and, yes, former President Donald Trump. Before Trump took the podium, Saban cracked the crowd up with a story from his 2018 White House visit where curious Crimson Tide players eyeballed the infamous “big red button” on Trump’s desk. The question everyone wants to ask—what happens if you push that button? Spoiler alert: no missiles launched, but it did set the stage for Trump’s cheeky call to “bring Saban back” from retirement. Was he half-serious? You bet. And even as he threw a bone to current coach Kalen DeBoer, the room (and the fans) couldn’t help but wonder—could the GOAT really make his comeback? With DeBoer’s first season under his belt, the pressure’s on. The question now is: Who’s really in charge of Alabama’s future gridiron glory—the man with the BCS ring collection or the new kid on the block?

Meet The Daughter Of Nick Saban (1:42)

On Thursday night, Alabama held its graduation ceremony for its class of 2025. Former football coach Nick Saban and President Donald Trump were both in attendance.

Before the president of the United States offered words of encouragement to Alabama’s graduating class, Saban shared a story from his 2018 visit to the White House.

Saban and the 2018 roster for the Crimson Tide had a chance to chat with Trump in the Oval Office. It didn’t take long for his players to ask questions about a big red button on Trump’s desk.

“The president is really nice to everybody and he’s got this very big, good-looking auspicious box on his desk that has a red button on top,” Saban said. “One of the players said, ‘Is that what you launch the missiles with?’ He said, ‘Well, push it and find out.’ The player said, ‘No I don’t want to do that.’ He says, ”No, go ahead. Go ahead. Push it, see what happens, find out.'”

So, how did Trump follow up this story from Saban? Well, by suggesting Saban should come out of retirement.

During last night’s speech, Trump told Alabama to “bring Saban back.” It sounded like he was half-joking.

“As a student at Alabama, you will always remember where you were when your head coach, Nick Saban, retired,” Trump said, via AL.com. “Remember that? He’s done such a fantastic job. That’s true with Nick. What a great coach. Let’s bring him back.”

Those remarks from Trump could’ve stirred up quite the controversy for Alabama’s football program, but he quickly pivoted to complimenting Kalen DeBoer.

“No. You have a good coach right now, though. You have a good coach right now.”

DeBoer went 9-4 in his first season as the head coach of the Crimson Tide. Obviously, there was a lot of pressure on him to replace Saban.

It’ll be interesting to see how DeBoer handles Year 2 in Tuscaloosa.
