Former Patriots Player Drops Shocking Bill Belichick Suggestion—Football Fans Can’t Believe It
Bill Belichick hasn’t even thrown his first snap as North Carolina’s head coach, yet the chatter around him is already louder than a kickoff crowd at a Super Bowl. Is it really his coaching that’s raising eyebrows—or the off-field drama? When an awkward CBS interview morphs into a headline grabbed by his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, shutting down questions with almost surgical precision, it makes you wonder: how much does a coach’s personal life really bleed into their professional playbook? Add to that the whispers from one of Belichick’s former Patriots teammates, Ted Johnson, who’s throwing down some serious shade—calling for Belichick’s firing before the college season even starts—and the plot thickens. Is UNC facing a coaching crisis, or is this just a sideshow fueled by personal bias and social media hysteria? The tangled mix of love, legacy, and leadership might have folks asking if the six-time Super Bowl champ is ready to handle the college gridiron—and the spotlight that comes with it. Intrigued? Well, buckle up. LEARN MORE.
Bill Belichick has yet to coach a game for North Carolina, but one of his former New England Patriots players thinks the college football program should already craft an exit strategy.
The six-time Super Bowl champion made headlines following an awkward CBS interview where his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, shut down a question about their romantic relationship. On Tuesday, Hudson posted an email that Belichick sent regarding the promotion of his new book and promised a “full statement,” which had not been released as of Wednesday morning.
According to TMZ, North Carolina is “concerned about Hudson’s influence” over Belichick. A source said there’s a “growing sense this could become a problem.”
Ted Johnson thinks the Tar Heels should be worried.
On Tuesday’s WEEI Afternoons, the former Patriots linebacker said Belichick is “not a good fit” for college because he “never cared about his players.” Because of the dynamic with Hudson, he suggested UNC should move on before Week 1.
“I think the Carolina Tar Heels should consider firing Bill Belichick,” Johnson said. “They should consider letting him go at this point. It’s a lot of money, and they’re deep into their preparation for next year, but I look at Bill Belichick, and I wonder if he’s fit to coach an NFL team, let alone fit to coach a college team.”
Regardless of how they feel about Belichick’s relationship with Hudson, most fans think it’s absurd to fire a legendary coach because of an odd TV interview. They believe Johnson has a vendetta against Belichick.
“Fire the greatest football coach of all time that you got to coach your irrelevant football program because they don’t like his girlfriend? These people man,” a fan said.
“Keep grinding that ax, Ted,” a fan wrote.
“Everyone at WEEI is so unserious,” a fan said.
“I mean it’s looking like a complete sideshow, but Ted hates Belichick more than anyone else,” a satire account said.
Johnson said he’s “worried” that Belichick isn’t equipped to coach college players. While Hudson is “embarrassing” the 73-year-old, he believes Belichick was on board with her interrupting the interview and posting the email.
“Those are bad decisions that make him and the university look really bad and question whether or not he is of sound mind and should be running a football team at the University of North Carolina,” Johnson said. “I think it’s just something you have to really, really consider. Just question the decision-making from the head coach at this point for those reasons.”
