Patriots Legend Drops Shocking Call: Why North Carolina Must Axe Bill Belichick Now

The whispers are turning into a full-on storm months before the 2025 college football season even blinks its eye. Imagine this: Bill Belichick, the NFL’s revered tactician, inked a $10 million-a-year deal to coach North Carolina’s Tar Heels, yet from Chapel Hill to beyond, voices – including those of former Patriots – are murmurings that maybe, just maybe, it’s time for a change. Is it really his off-field life, with a 24-year-old girlfriend whose very mention gets shut down mid-interview, that’s rattling the program — or something deeper that even a three-time Super Bowl champion sees? And when someone like Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson suggests UNC should cut ties, well, that’s not your everyday Tuesday talk. So, is UNC grappling with the legend’s legacy or a new chapter more complicated than anyone anticipated? Buckle up, this one’s got more twists than a Belichick game plan. LEARN MORE.

The 2025 college football season is still several months away from kicking off, and yet, there are already calls for North Carolina to fire Bill Belichick.

Belichick agreed to a five-year contract with UNC that’ll pay him a base salary of $10 million per year. The first three years of his deal are guaranteed. Although the program is financially committed to the legendary coach, that doesn’t mean they have to be OK with the recent headlines he’s generating.

During a recent interview with CBS, Belichick was asked how he met his current girlfriend Jordon Hudson, a former cheerleader for Bridgewater State University. She cut off Tony Dokoupil and said, “We’re not talking about this.” That led many to believe that she’s calling the shots in Chapel Hill.

While there’s no proof that Hudson is running North Carolina’s program into the ground, a three-time Super Bowl champion who played for Belichick believes changes need to be made to the Tar Heels’ coaching staff.

Believe it or not, New England Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson said North Carolina should consider firing Belichick. He made this claim on WEEI Radio this Tuesday.

“I hold college coaches to a higher standard than I do NFL coaches when it comes to morally, they are supposed to leaders of men, set a good example that kind of thing,” Johnson said, via the New York Post. ““I’m surprised UNC never called Atlanta on why they passed on hiring Bill Belichick. My feeling is that the Atlanta Falcons are kinda looking at the UNC and going, ‘You should have called us.’

“I say all that to say this: I think the Tar Heels should consider firing Bill Belichick. They should consider letting him go at this point. It’s a lot of money and they’re deep into, obviously, their preparation for next year, but I look at Bill Belichick and I wonder if he’s fit to coach an NFL team, let alone fit to coach a college team which, again, I put more onus on the character and personality and just overall character, if you will, of a college coach than I do a pro coach. I’m worried that Bill Belichick just isn’t fit to coach college kids and UNC should consider cutting ties with Bill Belichick.”

Johnson spent 10 seasons with the Patriots, so it’s safe to say he knows how Belichick operates.

If a former Patriots player is worried about Belichick’s recent antics, that should concern North Carolina’s athletic department.
