Tragedy has struck the college football world as a beloved running back has passed away at the age of 20.
On Thursday, South Dakota State University announced the passing of Nate White. He had only recently transferred to the Jackrabbits football team after playing his first two seasons at the University of Wisconsin.
Head coach Dan Jackson and university president Barry Dunn both offered their condolences and reflected on the impact White had at their school.
“Jackrabbit football is a brotherhood and today we are all hurting with the shocking news of the loss of Nate White,” Jackson said in a statement. “Nate impacted our program with his hard work, determination and overall positive spirit. We grieve with his family and will honor his memory throughout the upcoming season.”
“The South Dakota State University community is deeply saddened by the news of passing,” Dunn said. “While Nate had not been on campus long, he was not only beloved by his teammates and coaches, but also by faculty and those who had the opportunity to get to know him. This is certainly a sad time for our campus, community and the thousands of Jackrabbits supporters across the state and nation. Our hearts and prayers are with Nate’s family, loved ones, teammates and anyone who knew him.”

“News of Nate White’s tragic passing has been sad and difficult to comprehend for all of the Wisconsin Badger football family,” Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell said in a statement.Â
“We remember Nate as a friend and teammate and we stand in support of Nate’s family and loved ones.”

“Nate was a great friend, teammate and brother to all of us. He came in every day with a smile on his face and worked his ass off. We’re gonna miss you brother,” SDSU linebacker Joe Ollman wrote on X.
“Thinking of the friends and family of Nate White and all of @gojacksfb today,” the South Dakota Football program said on X.
Police are reportedly investigating White’s passing. He was found unresponsive and not breathing in his bed on Wednesday morning.
