Lane Kiffin has been enjoying his free time ahead of the 2025 college football season and made a pretty big accomplishment in the process.

Kiffin has been doing some fishing off the coast of Florida and on Tuesday he recorded his biggest catch ever. He shared a photo of a 62.5-inch trumpetfish that he caught, which he asserted set a Florida record for the longest one caught. Perhaps because of the fish’s name, he decided to tag President Donald Trump in his post:

Congratulations have been pouring in for Coach Kiffin’s big catch on X, with some people joking about the name of his fish while others are marveling at his accomplishment:

On the football field, the 2024 season was a bit of an up-and-down year for Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels. After starting the season 4-0, they got stunned by SEC rival Kentucky at home then lost on the road to LSU in overtime to hit 5-2. 

Even with those two losses, they managed to stay in SEC title contention through mid-November after a stunning upset win over Georgia. But a loss to Florida two weeks later resigned them to a fall outside of College Football Playoff contention.

Expectations are always high for Ole Miss though and last year’s struggles can’t repeat themselves if Kiffin wants to reach the SEC title game, let alone the College Football Playoff.
