Aaron Glenn Drops Unexpected Update on Justin Fields’ Game-Time Status for Sunday

Is there anything more Jets than starting a promising season only to have your star quarterback sidelined before Week 3? Watching Justin Fields take a pounding under center—first showing sparks against the Steelers, then grinding through a bruising loss to the Bills—felt like déjà vu with a painful twist. Now, with head coach Aaron Glenn officially ruling Fields out for the Tampa Bay game, you can’t help but wonder: Is this rough patch just a tempest in a teapot, or the harbinger of a season spent rebuilding hope? It’s a tough pill for Jets fans, no doubt — but hey, every setback in East Rutherford seems to come with a question about resilience and reinvention. Will Glenn’s men find their footing, or is this rookie coach’s baptism by fire only just beginning?

The New York Jets can’t catch a break at quarterback.

Justin Fields looked like a star in their Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Even though they didn’t get the win, it wasn’t his fault.

Then, he took an absolute beating in a Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

He sustained a concussion and had to be replaced by veteran backup Tyrod Taylor.

Now, head coach Aaron Glenn has said Fields won’t play in New York’s Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“One person that I could just say ‘out’ right now would be Justin. He’s still going through his protocol, so he’ll be out,” Glenn said.

Given Fields’ injury history, the Jets will be wise to take things slowly with their new quarterback.

Fields didn’t get anything going against the Bills, and the Bucs’ relentless defense wouldn’t have made things any easier for him.

Glenn has started his head coaching career with consecutive losses, and he’s an underdog again in Week 3.

A better chance for him to get his first NFL win will come in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins, with Fields possibly cleared to return by then.

The Jets committed to Fields and built their offense around his skills.

He knows that this might be his final chance to prove that he can be a franchise quarterback in the NFL.

So far, he’s shown the best and the worst of his repertoire, but failing to take a step forward will most likely force the Jets to go back to the drawing board and find someone else in the offseason.
