Aaron Gordon's Unbelievable NBA Feat: The Statline No One Saw Coming

Ever wonder if a single night of sheer brilliance on the hardwood could still leave you empty-handed? That’s exactly the puzzle Aaron Gordon tossed our way Thursday night. The Denver Nuggets’ forward did something no one in NBA history had ever pulled off — racking up 50 points while nailing over 90% of his threes, sinking 10 out of 11 attempts beyond the arc. You’d think that kind of performance could single-handedly turn the tide, right? Well, not quite. Despite Gordon’s artillery-like scoring barrage, the Nuggets still fell to the Golden State Warriors in a clash that felt like watching a masterpiece unravel in real time. It’s a cruel twist, and it got me thinking — in a league obsessed with starring performances, can sheer individual excellence ever be enough when the odds—and opponents—are stacked high? Let’s unpack this remarkable statline and what it really means for Denver’s aspirations this season.

Aaron Gordon of the Denver Nuggets poured himself into Thursday night’s game, but it sadly wasn’t enough.

It was still an impressive performance from Gordon, even if the Nuggets didn’t walk away with a win over the Golden State Warriors.

Gordon produced 50 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, shooting 17-of-21 from the field and 10-of-11 from beyond the three-point arc.

According to OptaSTATS, Gordon is now the first player in league history with 50+ points and 10+ made threes on 90 percent or better three-point shooting.

Gordon easily led his team with his points total, although Jamal Murray was a huge help with his 25 points, and Nikola Jokic was solid with a triple-double of 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Still, nothing could stop the Warriors and Steph Curry, who was looking like a vintage version of himself with his 42 points.

The summer was marked by significant moves for the Nuggets, and many analysts believe they are in their best position in years.

Much attention has been given to newcomers like Jonas Valaniunas and Cam Johnson, but the Nuggets have excellent returning favorites like Gordon, who could help them return to the Finals.

Understandably, this is still Jokic’s team, but the Nuggets will succeed or fail because of players like Gordon, who don’t receive as many headlines but are still vitally important.

Gordon can use his size and strength to push his way past opponents, but it was his three-point shooting that was most helpful on Thursday.

His versatility was superb, but it just couldn’t get the job done.
