Analyst Drops Surprising Bombshell That Could Change Trevor Lawrence’s Career Forever
Remember when Trevor Lawrence was the golden boy everyone couldn’t stop raving about? Scouts drooled, fans agonized over missed chances, and the Jets’ infamous regular-season win felt like a curse. Fast forward to 2025, and here we are—Lawrence, still just 25, yet somehow tangled in the shadow of unmet “generational talent” hype. Is Jacksonville’s shiny new regime warming up to rewrite the quarterback storybook, or are they quietly hunting for Lawrence’s replacement already? With a fresh head coach known for turning around struggling QBs, and a GM unbound by past loyalties, the clock’s ticking louder than ever. Makes you wonder—is this the dawn of a new era or the final chapter for the Jaguars’ once-beloved prodigy?

Not so long ago, NFL scouts were drooling over Trevor Lawrence.
Fans and the media mocked the New York Jets for winning a meaningless regular-season game, as it cost them the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and with it, the chance to select Lawrence.
Fast forward to today, and though the Jets still don’t have a franchise quarterback, Lawrence has failed to live up to the “generational talent” expectations.
That’s why analyst Michelle Smallmon believes the Jaguars might be preparing to replace him.
“This one may be a little bold. By the end of the season, we all are going to be talking about the Jags drafting Trevor Lawrence’s replacement. … Let’s look at the games where he was healthy. He struggled in the 10 games he played last season. His 61 percent completion rate ranked above only Anthony Richardson’s 48 percent in 2024 among 36 qualified quarterbacks. … I don’t know if we’re going to see enough of a consistent improvement to push away all those questions about the future at quarterback in Jacksonville as we enter a quarterback-rich draft,” Smallmon said.

The Jaguars hired offensive guru Liam Coen to replace Doug Pederson as head coach.
Coen has found success with struggling quarterbacks in the past, so they clearly hope he can work his magic with Lawrence.
But if that’s not the case, the new regime holds no allegiances to the 25-year-old.
New general manager James Gladstone wasn’t with the organization when it gave Lawrence a lucrative contract extension.
He is young, and the talent is there, but if it hasn’t happened yet, it might never happen.
The Jaguars were extremely aggressive to get him another prime weapon by trading up to draft Travis Hunter, which ironically cost them the first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft that they could have used on a new QB.
As such, the clock could be ticking on Lawrence, and after years of shortcomings, they may not want to give him another chance after this season.
