Baker Mayfield Enters Rare NFL QB Club—Can He Rewrite History?
Did you ever think you’d see Baker Mayfield channeling Brett Favre in the clutch moments? I mean, here we are in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season, and Mayfield’s not just winning games—he’s rewriting comeback history like it’s his personal highlight reel. For two consecutive weeks, he’s pulled off last-minute heroics with less than two and a half minutes left on the clock, a feat no quarterback has managed since ’99. It’s enough to make you wonder: is Tampa Bay’s newest star quietly becoming one of the NFL’s most electrifying finishers? Whatever doubts circled him before? Tossed right out the window. Let’s dig into how Mayfield is turning the Buccaneers into serious NFC South contenders—and what this means for the rest of the league.

Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season was host to a lot of exciting games, as there were many back-and-forth battles and high-scoring contests.
It was a great week for fantasy football fans, as many of the top players in the game put up massive numbers.
One of the biggest storylines from this week was the Monday Night Football doubleheader, as the second game of the evening didn’t start until 10:00 PM EST.
Regardless of how fans felt about the late game, the earlier matchup provided a lot of fireworks and excitement, as Baker Mayfield led a fourth-quarter comeback for the second straight week.
As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ X account noted, Mayfield is the first quarterback since 1999 to achieve this feat, leading his team to a comeback victory with less than 2:30 on the clock.
This is insane

The last player to do this was Brett Favre, putting Mayfield in rare air with one of the best to ever do it.
Mayfield came to the Buccaneers after a few failed experiments on other teams across the league, and fans weren’t exactly sure what to make of him when he took over the starting job.
If there were doubts before, they’re certainly gone now, as the Buccaneers are 2-0 and in the driver’s seat to win the NFC South.
This conference looks to be difficult down the stretch, but if Mayfield and the Buccaneers can just get into the playoffs, they’ll allow themselves an opportunity to shock the NFL world and take down some of the best teams in the process.
