The former three-star recruit has yet to see the field for OSU after being forced to walk away from football following a 2022 bone cancer diagnosis — which he beat the following spring.
However on Tuesday, the offensive tackle revealed that he was facing a new setback and would have to undergo a lengthy operation to make sure he has the best outcome.
“I’ve debated sharing this, but 6 months ago my doctors found a growing lung nodule,” Avery posted to X. “After monitoring it, they’ve decided surgery is the best option. Tomorrow I’ll undergo a 4–5 hour procedure. I know how this sounds, but I truly believe god does everything for a reason.”
