California Bill May Force Angels to Rebrand — What This Means for Anaheim Fans Could Shock You
This legislative curveball, dubbed the “Home Run for Anaheim Act,” aims to bring back a familiar championship-era name. Anaheim has been out of the official team title since 2015, after previously appearing in “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” attire from 2005 to 2015 and simply “Anaheim Angels” during their 1997–2004 run, which notably included their World Series win in 2002.
Meanwhile, Anaheim’s mayor, Ashleigh Aitken, is pushing the city attorney to investigate whether the team breached its lease by quietly removing “Anaheim” from key legal documents. The lease on the stadium currently extends to 2032, with an option that could stretch it as far as 2038, per insights from the Sports Business Journal.
