The market routinely ranks among the best for television ratings during the Stanley Cup playoffs even though the Sabres aren’t participating. The same was true for the recent 4 Nations Face-Off without a single Sabre playing for Team Canada or Team USA.
“People love hockey here, they really do,” said one former Sabres employee who was granted anonymity to protect their relationships. “The Sabres have turned into a brand where people are hockey fans more than they are Sabres fans.”
