The Inter captain has been struggling with injury over the past few weeks: he’s not played a part in Serie A for over a month.

But Martinez did manage a start against Barcelona in the second-leg of the semi-finals in the middle of that run of absences, and played a huge role in taking his side to the final. His opener marked his ninth goal in the Champions League this season, and he went on to win the penalty from which Inter scored their second.
