Chelsea vs Liverpool: Unexpected Starters and Tactical Surprises Revealed in Live Premier League Lineups!

Chelsea are clawing their way back from a stubborn patch, desperate to snap a three-game Premier League drought as they host Liverpool this Saturday. The Blues recently let a promising lead slip away in a 3-1 home loss to Brighton, a bitter pill given their bounce back with a narrow 1-0 victory over Benfica in the Champions League just days before. On the flip side, Liverpool’s unbeaten streak hit the skids after a shock 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace, quickly followed by a 1-0 setback away at Galatasaray in Europe. With both sides facing recent stumbles, this clash promises more than just points – it’s about pride, momentum, and setting the tone for the weeks ahead. Chelsea lineup vs Liverpool

Prolific forward Cole Palmer remains out for Chelsea, while centre-back Trevoh Chalobah is suspended after being sent off against Brighton.

Defender Levi Colwill has a long-term knee injury and forward Liam Delap may not return this year from a hamstring problem, which is also the issue afflicting midfielder Dario Essugo.

Oluwatosin Adarabioyo (calf) could return after next week’s international break and fellow defender Benoit Badiashile was back for the win over Benfica.

Midfielder Andrey Santos is out with a minor injury but forward Joao Pedro starts.

“It’s difficult but we trust everyone we have here,” said manager Enzo Maresca. “If you can go with the same two [partnerships], or change one after four or five games, it’s much better.

“The more you play together, the better the relationship gets. Sometimes you don’t even need to speak on the pitch – they can understand each other immediately.

“Since I joined the club [in June 2024], every time I have spoken about Benoit I’ve always said he’s an important player and a very good player.

‘Unfortunately, he’s been injured a few times, but before the last one he was almost playing every game at the Club World Cup.

“Now he is back and that’s good news for us, his teammates and especially for him. When you are out for a long period, it’s always a shame.”

Chelsea starting XI: Robert Sanchez, Malo Gusto, Josh Acheampong, Benoit Badiashile, Marc Cucurella, Pedro Neto, Reece James, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Alejandro Garnacho, Joao Pedro

Chelsea substitutes: Filip Jorgensen, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Marc Guiu, Facundo Buonanotte, Estevao, Gaga Slonina, Romeo Lavia, Landon Emenalo

Liverpool lineup vs Chelsea

New Liverpool centre-back Giovanni Leoni is out with a long-term knee issue and the timescale for Alisson Becker’s recovery from a hamstring injury the goalkeeper suffered at Galatasaray is unclear.

“It depends on how fast his recovery goes,” said manager Arne Slot, calling replacement Giorgi Mamardashvili “very good”.

“I would be surprised if he would be there in the first game after the international break.

“[Mamardashvili] has adjusted really well, which is not a surprise because he’s a quality goalkeeper.

“Now he can do what Caoimh [Kelleher] had to do so many times in the past, replacing Alisson – hopefully in a way Caoimh did so many times before.”

Slot made late decisions on the fitness of forwards Federico Chiesa and Hugo Ekitike, who are both on the bench, and is continuing to manage starter Alexander Isak’s game time after the striker missed pre-season and the start of the campaign while he was agitating for a move from former club Newcastle.

“He’s already scored and he gets fitter and fitter,” said Slot. “The main thing is he adjusts to his teammates and the teammates adjust to him.

“The more they play together, the better things will work. He had a great counter movement in the Palace game, where in the end the midfielder didn’t see that and played the ball to the right.

“If he would have seen it, he would have been one-on-one with the goalkeeper. These are things you get if you play more together.”

Liverpool starting XI: Giorgi Mamardashvili, Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez, Mohamed Salah, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Alexander Isak

Liverpool substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo, Florian Wirtz, Federico Chiesa, Curtis Jones, Hugo Ekitike, Andy Robertson, Jeremie Frimpong
