College Football Playoff 2025 Shake-Up: What This Game-Changing Move Means for the Future
According to ESPN’s Heather Dinich, the College Football Playoff will be moving to a straight seeding model starting this fall. Teams will still qualify in the same way with the five best conference champions joining the tournament with seven at-large bids, but after they qualify, they’ll be seeded based on their rankings.
“The 12-team College Football Playoff will move to a straight seeding model this fall, rewarding the selection committee’s top four teams with the top four seeds and a first-round bye, multiple sources told ESPN. The 10 FBS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua, who comprise the CFP’s management committee, reached the unanimous agreement necessary to make the change during a call on Thursday afternoon,” Dinich reported on Thursday.
